Join Red Tractor

How do I join Red Tractor?

Joining Red Tractor, the UK’s largest food and farming standards scheme, involves a few key steps. Red Tractor doesn’t certify directly. You must apply through an independent certification body who work in partnership with Red Tractor. Your membership is renewed on an annual basis.

How we work with certification bodies

Red Tractor contracts certification bodies to manage our schemes and conduct assessments on our behalf.

To guarantee high-quality service, we require all certification bodies to:

  • Manage applications & renewals efficiently
  • Ensure assessors have the required training & qualifications
  • Handle non-compliance issues fairly
  • Investigate concerns based on third-party intelligence

We work closely with the certification bodies and their assessors to ensure consistency and fairness.

If a certification body loses its contract to conduct independent assessments of Red Tractor schemes, we will publicly list this information on our website for at least 12 months after the last assessment was completed.

Red Tractor requires all the certification bodies it works with to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 17065 standards. UKAS ensures:

  • Shadow audits to ensure consistency and robustness of the scheme requirements.
  • Annual process audits

We work closely with UKAS to ensure Red Tractor Assurance requirements are met, providing clear guidelines for accredited certification bodies.
